"UK students should be encouraged to learn Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic, "languages of the future", if they want to keep up with international competitors. This trend has major implications for the UK where many people do not speak another language with any great proficiency. When we are in competition economically, educationally or culturally, conversing in English alone is no longer enough."

I speak a little Welsh. Don't suppose that counts :-(

Global spread of English 'a threat to UK'

Spoofing memberships
We've been having a problem with children logging in and logging out as multiple personalities. Sheesh! 10 year olds ;-) They're abusing the openness of these blogs. We want it to be easy for people to sign up and to post comments and never considered that this would be misused.

To counter this, I've started to track IP addresses, matching them up to other members using the same IP addresses. In this way I can see, through viewing a member's profile, what other personas they're using. Thus, we can then delete or block those personas and maintain a fairly clean membership list. Only Managing Editors can see this information.

As part of the education of these errant 10 year olds, I've already had a word with the most prolific abusers and said, that it's good internet manners to know how to spell your email address and to maintain and nurture your on-line profile page. They've taken this to heart and are doing so.

BTW: all names, emails and IPs have been changed in these screen shots.

We'll be adding more tracking details to these views over time. Like: when joined, last visit and number of page views. Again, only Managing Editors will be able to view this information
