Plan for school drug-test trials
Plan for school drug-test trials: "...Some head teachers who have tried random, voluntary testing say it gives children the power to say no to drugs outside school and improves attendance rates and behaviour by making pupils feel safer."

I hadn't thought of 'the power to say no.' I like this. I like this a lot.

Little grown ups
Survey by the Cartoon Network??? In the Guardian today: Childhood ends earlier as parents pressure children

"Increasing numbers of parents are pushing their children to read books aimed at a higher age to fast-track their education to the detriment of their development, it is claimed today.

It found that children today stop believing in such things as elves, goblins and fairies around the age of six, whereas their parents mostly held on to such beliefs until the age of 10.

85% of parents saying they arranged extra-curricular educational activities for their children.

35% of parents who said their children spent at least half an hour a night on homework and revision.

The report also recommended a ban on advertising through television, newspapers and mobile phones aimed at primary schoolchildren.

I still want local advertising on these school sites, as I don't believe ads for the local curry house are as pernicious as ads for Coco Pops. Imagine being pestered to go to the curry house. Imagine being pestered to buy Coco Pops. Lots of differences.
