Parents given power to check for paedophiles
The Observer: "Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said new powers announced last year will be tried out in four police areas: Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Cleveland and Warwickshire. Single mothers will be able to check whether new boyfriends have convictions before they start a serious relationship, while relatives or neighbours who look after children could also be checked."

Great idea! I would love to be able to check out a few people--it would put my wondering mind to rest. Though, they may not yet, have any convictions.
